Question about eye Cataracts?

Tomorrow I will be getting my eyes checked. The last time I had my eyes checked was like when I was like in 8th grade or freshmen year (I'm 25 now so its been a while). The last time I had my eyes checked the eye doctor said that I have a cataract in one of my eyes. I'm supposed to be wearing glasses but I haven't wore my glasses in a long time.

I'm a little bit nervous cause I haven't had my eyes checked in a long time. My question is what exactly are cataracts and can it be fixed? Would it be fixed by surgery or with some sort of laser? Also would the surgery make my vision better? How long is recovery time? Please tell me anything you know about cataracts and cataract surgery?

Considering I haven't had my eyes checked in a while should I wear my old eyeglasses today to get used to the glasses?

  1. My father had cataract in both eyes, had the surgery and now has perfect vision.  It is some sort of build up on the lens of your eyes they remove the lens and put an artificial one in. (i think that is how it works.)  It was an outpatient surgery and could see perfectly right after the surgery.  The best part is health insurance will generally pay for this, unlike the 4500 i paid for elective lasik surgery.

  2. hi a simple surgery will give you normal vision.  you will get a lens  fixed in your eye during the surgery. no pain  next day you will be allright. for a month you have to wear sun glasses  and you have to apply some drops prescribed by the doctor.  after a review of the eye  glasses may be , if necessary , prescribed by your doctor. that is all. don't worry about the cataract. ok? best of luck!    pl. go to www. mayoclinic.com..bye.
