  1. im starting the disability process..but i have a lawyer helping me..long story..anyway from what he has told me, you have to be out of work 6 months before you can apply for benefits and NOT work the entire time you are applying...he explained if you are working while you are applying they will continue to assume you can work...

good luck with this..he's telling me it can sometimes take a year or two..especially with something like fibromyaligia or what I have ... RSD...its painful..we cant do much, hurt 24/7 but both are illnesses not easily proven....some ppl believe its all in our heads...

  3. I have personally been through this and it can be a pain in the butt as it always is when dealing with a bureaucracy. You can file on line, but i learned that it is better to make a personal appearance at your local SS office. Get all of your documentation from you health care providers and nothing is to insignificant. Be prepared to be there most of the day even after you fill out your application. They will give you an appointment with a caseworker, and don't miss the appointment because they will toss your file. Then find an attorney that handles SS cases and most of them will handle the case on a contingency basis, you will need an attorney otherwise it make take years to get approval. I am not joking about that I have seen it happen and it took me 16 months. You will be turned down at least four times they do this just as a matter of course, and it makes no difference how badly you need the  compensation. I am serious I can tell you more than one horror story that people go through to get their disability. The upside is the date that you file until you get your first check will be retroactive payment from the filing date. I don't mean to frighten you but it is frightening and time consuming when dealing with government agencies. Feel free to contact me with any questions. I know what I am talking about as I have been there and done that.
