I want to put linoleum in my bathroom which now has carpet. There is particle board under carpet. I know that peel and stick tile will not stick to the particle board but will linoleum with glue stick to it and stay. Or do I have to put 1/4" plywood down first and then put the linoleum?

  1. 1/4" Luan is your best bet here, and this is what any professional would do upon being hired to do the job.

You can even use a hammer stapler to install it.

  2. Linoleum will stick to particle board, but if you get into the job and find you have water damage I'd go with the luan.

  3. I would put down some 1/4" luan plywood, makes it much easier to remove the linoleum later and get a better appearance on the linoleum installation.

  4. quarter inch ply is best - have you heard of cardeen - it doesn't slip like linoleum and is harder waring, is put down in tiles so if damaged can be replaced.

i've got minolium in the kitchen and cardeen in the bathroom.

make sure the lino is non slip though!
