Question:

Question about flowers?

For my wedding, the only flowers will be my boquet, my MOH's, and my sister's. Flowers aren't incredibly important to me, so I can't see spending a whole ton of money on them.

My wedding colors are Lilac purple and white. I'd like my bouquet to be small and simple, yet really pretty. There are plenty of flowers that come in white, but does anyone know which ones come in lilac purple? (not lilacs though, my fiance is very allergic to them) Do gerbera daisies come in purple?

Also, other than Stop N shop/shaws/wholefoods/etc...is there any place were I can buy loose flowers and put it all together myself? Do florist shops have them?

  1. I have seen many flowers that come in lilac. Have you thought about doing silk flowers at all? I am doing high quality silk because I wanted to keep mine forever. But if you did do silk you could have lilac. I did see roses and gerbera daisies in a lilac color in silk as well. But if you do want to do real my best firned just went to Walmart and bought a few bouquets and rearanged them the way she wanted, it was beautiful and she only paid $3-5 per bouquet.

  2. Props to you girl, for standing up for what you want! It is YOUR wedding! I like your idea for your wedding flowers! Orchids come in a variety of purple and Lilac colors. Check Publix or a local florist/wholesaler. You should be able to get them to order them for you and put them together yourself.

  3. I'm fairly sure they do make gerberas in purple - if they don't, try mixing a little blue and red food coloring in some water, getting some white gerberas, cutting off about an inch of the stem bottom and leaving them in the water for a day or two. If you keep track of the dye-to-water ratio, you can even get fancy and match your colors!

Costco/Sams Clubs actually have a pretty decent selection, and wedding programs. It's worth a look ;) Chicory flowers grow wild and they're a periwinkle color, and asters are also a pretty royal purple. Larkspur comes in purple, as does the actual herb lavender (the russian variety looks a little more impressive) which would make your bouquet smell nice too!

  4. Hi and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

There are lots of flowers in the "purple" family:

    ~ Iris

    ~ Gerbera daisies

    ~ Regular daisies

    ~ Tulips

    ~ Roses

    ~ Delphiniums

~ Orchids (expensive because they are "exotic" flowers)

    ~ Carnations

    ~ Mums

If you live by a Walmart or Costco, you can special order flowers.  Talk with them at least a few weeks before.  At my local Walmart, you need to special order 1 week prior....but you would want to see what they can do for you earlier than that.

If you want to do your own bouquets, that is totally up to you.  But, if you want someone else to do them (so that you are not stressed), another idea would be to look at a floral department in a large grocery store chain (Publix, Kroger, etc.)  Most large grocery stores have a floral department and these people are trained designers.  They will be LOTS cheaper than a regular florist.

Hope this helps.  Good luck and I hope you have a beautiful wedding day

  5. You could use hydrangeas instead of lilacs.

  6. Find out where the nearest wholesale flower market is.  That's where florists go every couple day to get their flowers.  Or if there's a farmer's market nearby and the day of/day before, you can get them there, but they will only have what's in season for your area.

If you want to have fun with the flower arranging, and learn a new skill at the same time, check out your local community classes.  I see flower arranging offered all the time.

  7. roses

    orchids

    hydrangias

    cala lillies

    tulips

    iris

    hyacinth

    freesia

    anemones

    sweet peas

    daisies

any florist can order you the loose flowers, but they may have minimum, call around

  8. You should have flowers for yourself and your entire bridal party.  Also you should have corsages for your mom and mother in law.  Your father and father in law, groom and ushers should have boutineers.  You can also include grandparents if you want but you don't want to look cheap.  It is your wedding day.  Do it right.

  9. Costco is a great way to buy flowers & save money on them.

A lot of floral shops will allow you to buy loose flowers, as well, you'll just want to check with them to see if you'll need to order the flowers ahead of time or not.

Gerber daisies do come in purple, but i don't believe naturally.
