Question:

Question about foster care/CPS in Michigan?

I’m working on a novel and I’ve had my baddie call CPS on the protagonist. It’s unfounded and here’s my question: would CPS ever contact the protagonist directly, if they found no evidence asking around? I put it in to make my baddie’s accomplice start to realize that she’s out of control. But I’m not sure where the plot goes next. Would someone contact the protagonist? Would she even know? What would happen?

It’s set in contemporary Detroit.

Thanks in advance. I don’t know if I have to re-plot, or if I’ll have someone going ‘oh, that’s so unrealistic’, so I’m fact-checking, but google seems to be letting me down on this one.

  1. Absolutely, CPS is usually required to contact the parent, they usually do it after speaking with the child, if it's serious and before talking to others.
