Question:

Question about foundation degrees and Bsc (Hons) courses

I don't get it basically. I am starting a Fdsc in Animal Science at Newquay which is a two year course. I found a Bsc in Animal Science at Plymouth Colege which is the colsest one to me. I would like to do that afterwards so I have a full degree. Now I cannot apply for this without having done the Fdsc first since I don't have A levels and stuff. The Bsc is a 4 year course. There is a Bsc course at Newquay and it is only 2 years and it says it is for people who have already completed an fdsc as a top up course. So if I applied for the one at Plymouth already having done an fdsc, would I still have to complete all 4 years? Or could I use it as a top course like the one in Newquay? I really don't want 6 years of study ahead of me, just for this, it's not like I'll be a vet at the end of it or anything.

  1. Best thing to do is ring the uni and ask. They can take other courses into consideration and some do access courses to bring you up to speed if you havent done a levels.

  2. You need to contact the uni about "entry with advanced standing" that means missing out one or two years at the start of the course.

It depends on how closely your Fd matches the first year of the BSc. If they are almost the same you can probably swap, if they cover different things you still might be able to swap but may have to do a few extra modules.

The two courses at Newquay  will have been written to complement each other so that students can automatically progress. You may also have the same tutors so although it's not as close to home it might be the better option. But you have 2 years to decide.

    Good luck with your studies.
