Question about fuel consumption for 777 jet?

I'm hoping for some good luck here, that someone might happen to know the approximate fuel consumption, (cruising), in pounds, for a 777 jet. Anybody?

  1. Here's information from the web site listed below:

    Boeing 777-300ER

    Fuel Capacity: 47,890 US Gallons

    Range: 7,880 Nautical Miles

    3 Class PAX Capacity: 365

    Gallons/Mile: 6.077

    Gallons/Passenger Mile: .01665

    According to this web site

    http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/specif...

jet fuel has a specific gravity of 0.82.

Since water has a density of about 8.33 pounds per gallon, jet fuel has a density of 0.82*8.33 = 6.83 pounds per gallon.  Hence, the fuel capacity of a 777 is 327,000 pounds.

The figure I find most interesting is the number of gallons per passenger mile, which translates to 60.1 passenger miles per gallon -- pretty similar to a car with 2 or 3 occupants (including the driver).

Finally, the fuel consumption is 6.77 gallons/mile, which is equivalent to 46.2 pounds per mile.

  2. If I recall correctly, a 777-200/ER with GE-94 engines burns from 18,000 to 13,000 lbs of Jet-A per hour in cruise, depending on remaining gross weight, altitude, and temperature. Figures can run as high as 20,000 per hour though in high temperature, low cruise altitude situations, and even higher during climbs.
