  1. geisha is a Japanese term, but the original concept comes from ancient China, geisha literally means 'sing, dance, entertainer" (歌舞伎), it's a class who served high ranking noblel males, sometimes geisha are males, young pretty males.

    they were educated, they sold their dancing skills, singing, they didn't sell their virginity.

    But geisha was more developed in Tokugawa period (德川幕府)of Japan, the founding mother of geisha was 出云阿国, in warring states period(战国时代) of Japan.

    i think people are misconceived because of the movie memoirs of a geisha which has multiple chinese actors.
