I am 17 almost 18 and I'm planning on getting a tattoo on my B-day ive been trying to convince my parents to be ok with me getting it and i wont have to worry about hiding it or anything but so far no luck. Should I just go ahead and get it and then attempt to hide it for as long as i can from them or wait until i move out. I want to get the medical emblem small on my inner ankle or the back of my shoulder and probably wont be moving out for a while so advice would be great thanks!

  1. i dont know why you want the medical emblem. but please make sure it means something to you deep down inside your heart.

please don't make a rash decision. If you don't get a tattoo right away when you turn 18, it will be ok. because there will always be another day.

so if you have to wait to move out, a year or so compared to the forever you'll have the tattoo will seem short.

  2. same as other people said, tell them the reasons behind it. and its hard to live with parental units that are not down with what you're doing, even if its your own body. when you move out would be a more idea time to get it, I think.

  3. If it's something they don't want you to have, but it won't damage your relationship with them, then get it when you turn 18.  If it really bothers them that much, then wait until you move out.

  4. I think you're too young for tattoos.Look around you, they're everywhere.Don't be like everyone else,  be yourself. That's right, as long as you're under their roof...you know the rest.If you move out and on your own you won't have the money to get a tattoo because it's an expensive world out here. When you get older and want to find a nice paying job no one will take you seriously when they see tattoos. It doesn't matter what kind they are, it just the principle of the matter.

  5. I say just get it! There has to be a way you can hide it, especially if you end up getting it on your back. Also, once you get it, what are they going to do?

  6. tattoos are really pointless

i wouldnt recommend you getting one

youll regret it in the future

  7. No, I think if you're going to you should get it , and try to explain it to them as best you can. You're an adult , they will need to deal. I would not recommend hiding it or deceiving them.

I do advise one thing though (and I have 3 tattoos with 2 more planned for the immediate future ). Once I decide on a design and I'm absolutely sure (not just the idea, but the actual drawing and everything)...I let it gel for a year. Everyone is different, but this works for me and I have no regrets.

More advice..go to the best artist you can (& tip them well), and get word of mouth from people you trust who have tattoos. Even for a small design, it's permanent and you want quality work.

I advised my daughter on that method and was going to allow her to get one at 17...she's almost 21 and she's still 'gelling'. I'm pretty sure she will eventually get one, but why rush it? It's not a reversible decision really. And it's not for everybody.

I like the idea for your tatoo and the location. One more piece of advise; don't make it too small or it will blur with time (a good artist will tell you that as well).

    Good luck :)

  8. Did you explain to them what you're getting and why?

Also..explain WHY to me.  It sound slike a cool idea Im sure there's a story behind it.

  9. Your gonna be 18 and its your birthday. Make your birthday spontanious and do what you feel like doing. It like celebrating your an adult so do what you want. Just dont get something stupid tattooed on you.

  10. Please don't you will be so sorry!
