Question about getting medication for anxiety.?

I have had really bad anxiety for the past two years and I really would like to get some medication to help ease it.

I get panic attacks and hypervenalate all the time, so this is not just being anxious once or twice.

What I need to know is where can I get medication for it?

Obviously not the drug store, but I mean do I need to go to my regualor doctor or see a therapist?

I've never really talked about it with my usual doctor before, so that's why I'm asking.

Should I scedule an appointment with them or just find a therapist and seek their help?

Thank you for your time&&help. (:

  2. A therapist can't prescribe you anything.  They're psychologists, which means they're not medical doctors and not authorized to prescribe medication.  Of course, if you want talk therapy as well, you could talk to your GP about options.

Go to your GP and have them refer you to a psychiatrist.  Psychiatrists are medical doctors and can give you what you want.

  3. if u want to get on medication for your anxiety you need to get a psychiatrist..which can be referred to you by your regular doctor he/she should have a suggestion of where to go.

but i will suggest to get a therapist too, it helps so much.

i struggle w/ depression and anxiety and just having someone to talk to that has actual things i can do to relieve it has been a life safer.

ive also been on many medications and i will say that it might take awhile to find the right one for you and some might make ur anxiety worse until u do find the right one...and it is hard to get off some of them if ur on it for a few months u will get w/drawl symptoms and its just a hard transistion to learn how to live with out once u been on it for awhile...

but ur psychiatrist will explain everything to you and if u decide to get a therapist they will help u thru it too.
