i am enrolled in college. schools start august 25. i can start to buy my books this week. i plan on buying them wednesday or thursday. i am also getting a pell grant. after fees and tuition are taken out, it only leaves me with around $350 dollars to buy books. i wont start recieving my gi bill payment until september though. my question, is there some kind of pay advance i could get from the gi bill to help pay for my books right now, this week instead of waiting until september? i really do need my books and would like to get them all at the same time.

  1. Awesome to hear your are starting college!  The GI bill is a great program but, not the most flexible.  There are a few companies that sell text books A LOT cheaper than your college bookstore - that might help you be able to buy books earlier.

Another idea is to take out a subsidized student loan, use the money to buy books, put the rest into an account and earn interest - the money is "free" in that you don't accrue interest until you graduate or leave school. Pay it back when you get done with school and pocket the interest.
