me and my best mate were thinking of traveling USA and Canada after high school more likely after university.

but we know our trip would be atleast 2 years more liekly 3-4 years. cos we just wanna go so many places.

we'd be like keen to work and stuff.

so like would we have to apply for a green card?

or whatever it is i dont really know

or could you get a work visa that'd last for that long???

btw we are from New Zealand

and this would be in like 7 years or so depends on how long university takes us.

  1. You cannot do as you plan in the US.  A tourist visa prohibits working and is typically 30 days, not more than 90, and you must have sufficient funds for all "typical tourist" expenses.  If you get a job with an employer willing and able to obtain a work permit/employment visa for you, you must work only for that employer, and you cannot travel around -- you will be working.

To get a green card, you must apply for immigration, and if approved, you wait in line for your priority number to come up to get permission to enter.  That can take 5 to 10 years from date of approval.  Only after you enter can you apply for a conditional green card for 2 years.  Then apply for removal of conditions to get a permanent green card or legal permanent residence status.

Enjoy your juvenile fantasies, but it ain't gonna happen here.

  3. Obtaining a green card is a long and difficult process - it makes you a PERMANENT resident of the US and costs a LOT of money over a long period of time (paperwork etc.,).

I would contact a US Consulate in NZ and ask their advice pertaining to work visas.

Remember also, that a green card in the US does not permit you to work/live in Canada, ONLY the US!

  4. YOU ARE FROM NZ AND SPEAK ENGLISH so where does all this LIKE come from ---I am not being nasty but please  be proud of BEING FROM NZ --ENGLISH PLEASE.   You should be able to get a temp visa & work permit but check at your embassy----as an extra---my uncle is/was James Crichton a NZ Victoria Cross holder

  5. No, you are not eligible for a green card.  Green cards are for permanent residents, i.e., those who plan to make the US their home.  You would have to apply for the appropriate long-term work/visit visas.  Contact the US consulate to find out which one.

  6. You can visit for up to 90 days with a visa waiver or you can apply for a tourist visa to visit for longer. You can't work while you are visiting.

To work here you need an employer to sponsor you, no employer is going to sponsor you if you plan on travelling. You can only get a visa via an employer if you are well educated and have skills employers can't find in America. This doesn't allow you to job hop but binds you to that employer.
