  1. I use aspen bedding for my guinea pigs. It's not as good as CareFresh bedding, but it's better than pine or cedar, which are very bad for guinea pigs. I also put a layer of newspaper under the wood shavings, this absorbs any urine that soaks through, and it makes cleanup very easy. The food I give my guinea pigs is around 8 dollars a bag, I believe, but you should check with your local pet store.

In addition to dry food, give your guinea pigs fresh fruit and veggies.

Guinea pigs are happier when they have friends, so get at least 2 of the same gender. A bonded pair or 2 brothers or sisters is best.

Make sure you get a cage that is large enough. 1 guinea pig needs around 7.5 sq. feet, ideally. 2 piggies need, ideally, 10.5 sq. feet, but bigger is always better.

When you get guinea pigs, consider adopting from a shelter. They are often crowded with unwanted animals, and many of the animals are just as good, or even better than, animals from a pet store. In my experience, shelter animals are happier and healthier than pet store animals, who are often not used to being held/played with, while shelter animals are often used to being in a family.

  2. Use carefresh. It's the best but do not use pine or ceder. I also heard you say one GP. You should always get 2 no matter what. They are very social animals and need a buddy. For food and bedding, I would say about 40$/month. Carefesh is expensive but its so worth it.

  3. Me being a former Guinea Pig owner, baby guinea pig to be exact. I can tell you it's kind of expensive.

What you should use for her bedding is dry news paper. The reason for that is it's easier to clean up her droppings (WHICH THEY p**p ALOT!!!) And it files down her nails and they get extra long and pointy.

Which makes it hurt when you pick her up. You would only have to buy newspaper every 2weeks. It depends how much newspaper you buy each time. As far as food, Just feed her apples, bannana's, oranges, carrot's, nuts and cucumbers. It really makes her coat shiny and thick.

Which will all add up two about 30- 35 dollars a month.

JUST NEVER BUY THE GUINEA PIG FOOD FROM THE STORE! JUST BUT FRUITS, VEGGIES, AND NUTS! (NOT GOOD FOR HER)

Good luck sweetie and if you have anymore questions email me at washington.candi@yahoo.com

  4. i used to have 20 something guinea pigs . do not use ceder , because ceder will kill your Guinea pig . do not use the paper bedding because they can eat it and chock on it. you can use pine bedding , but i think aspen smells Little better then the pine. i use to breed guinea pigs that's why i know that for and i use to work in a pet store taking care of them

  5. Ello Mate,

anything but Pine. most animals are allergic and can get Cancer

  6. The best and healthiest is to use fleece. It is also washable so you can reuse it. However, you will need to line it with something under the fleece b/c the fleece doesn't absorb it allows the pee to go straight through keeping your guinea pig cleaner and making p**p much easier to clean out b/c you don't have to dig through bedding to find it. You cannot use cedar b/c it is poisonous. Pine is the cheapest, but the can be very bothersome to the pigs. So, if you use fleece you can put the pine under the fleece and get the best of both worlds. I put newspaper, some pine chips for absorption, a few paper towels to prevent the pine chips from sticking to the fleece, and then fleece. They make pet carpets which you can cut to fit your cage or you can buy fleece. Then once the fleece gets too dirty you just shake off and wash. I usually change fleece 2 times a week and complete set 1 time a week. If you don't want to do fleece, CareFresh or similar is the most economical and not too dusty so it won't make your guinea pig sick. Eco bedding is the best of the best it is recycled paper but is much more expensive. Cost really depends on cage size. For one guinea pig you need a minimu of 2 X 3 feet is minimum. Pine is really cheap you can get a huge bag for 5 bucks. The fleece runs about 10-20 bucks initially, but used for a long time. Care Fresh will run you about 10-15 bucks a week. Eco will run you 20-30 bucks a week. Food is cheap like 20 bucks a month for hay and pellets. Fruit and veggies of course depends on grocery prices.

  7. dont use cedar, or pine. its best to go with carefresh, they seem to prefer it, too.
