Question:

Question about hermit crabs / misting? (and bathing)?

Im going to be getting a hermit crab or 2 pretty soon. I've read all over that you need to 'mist' them daily, for humidity. My question is, what exactly do I mist? Am I supposed to mist the crabs, mist the tank walls, the sand, what? Also, how, and how often do I 'bathe' them??

  1. You need to mist everything in the tank.  You may want to ask a vet how exactly to mist them without stressing them out.

  2. This site has everything you need to know about hermies:

  3. Since hermit crabs need humidity to breathe, you need to mist the entire habitat: substrate, crabs, climbing toys, hideouts, and just the general air. Some people bathe their hermit crabs once every two weeks, and some just provide a deep water dish so that the crabs can bathe themselves whenever they want to (or if they ever want to take a swim).

Hope that helped; good luck and have fun! =)
