Question about hospital management

I am a freshman at Rutgers University and I am thinking about hospital and healthcare management as a career. Any advice as to what major I should choose? Also how much do people in this field make? Are the hours good? How long does it take to land a job(bachelor, masters, PhD...)?

Thanks!!

  1. consult your school advisor.  this is a great field.  you will need at least a masters.

  2. this is the field that i'm interested in as well. there are a lot of different routes you can take. there are several master's degrees that might interest you...such as Masters of Health Administration or a Masters of Business Administration with a health management concentration.  a LOT of jobs that you might want to apply for will require a masters degree...at least this is what i've noticed so far. however...there is a different route as well. since most management jobs require many years of experience, you can start in a position and work your way up. i've noticed that many organizations post jobs for coordinators, team leaders, and THEN team managers. so don't ignore the important of work experience...because that will be very beneficial too (even when applying to your masters)

    good luck!
