Question:

Question about hospital rooms?

I have a family member that is in the hospital. I am just wondering. She is in a room with two beds, and she has another patient in the room with her. Why were hospitals made to have two beds per room except for in critical care units? It gives patients less privacy. If I was admitted to the hospital: I would want to be by myself; so I could have more privacy with an injury or illness. I wouldn't want to be left in a room with a stranger and not know who that person is. Bit the you have the curtain separating the beds.

  1. Most hospitals offer a private room, you just have to pay for it--make a deposit on it.

We recently had a new hospital built and I believe all the rooms are now private rooms, at least the ones I have been in for one  reasons or another.

  2. Semi-private rooms in hospitals are actually disappearing.  They are leftover from generation in health care that no longer exists.  With current HIPAA rules and laws you will see them vanish as older institutions are phased out and rebuilt.  I don't see any hospital building semi-private rooms in the future as they are just too risky for privacy violations.  The hospital I work for is building a new project for completion in 2010 and we did not even consider semiprivate rooms.  It is a relic from the past.

  3. It may be that the room is cheaper if two patients share.  Perhaps your relative chose this option?

If the price is the same as in a single-occupancy room, then you have a case for complaint with the hospital.

  4. cost effectiveness ,

  5. primarily it's to give an option for a client who can not afford a private room ( private rooms are expensive) another is to accommodate every patient and to pass the hospital regulating board for bed capacity...

  6. It can all help with the recovery of the patient, just to have company even if not involved with conversation. If you had to go to hospital, you can pay for privacy if you require it,providing such a bed is available.

But if you have togo to hospital, you will not e concerned one iota about being by your own. Just get real and get over it.

Oh, I saw your name is Andrew. I thought I was writing to an old woman.
