  1. Since you are planning on getting the refillable mug and considering your age you won't be paying the gratuity that your friends parents will be paying on the room you really only need to worry about spending money. The pictures purchased on board can be expensive but I normally buy at least one just because they turn out really nice. And I always buy a shirt or two, usually one on board and another at a port. If you aren't doing any excursions then there isn't much you will need money for. The only other thing I can think of is if there is a private island that the ship docks at and there are bikes or tubes or something that you can rent while you are in port, but thats about it. You will have a great time!

  2. It depends on which cruise line you are taking but here is a list of "extras" from a Carnival cruise...

    - tips.  $10 per day per guest.

    - photos. $22-25 per sheet

    - bar drinks. $4-12 each plus 15% gratuity

    - soda.  $1.75 per can or $35-45 for unlimited by glass.

    - bottled water - $3.50

    - bingo. $5-10 per sheet.

    - spa services. $50-200 per service

    - casino. $$$

--All of the above can be charged to your on-board account so you don't need cash if you open your on board account with a credit card.

    Cash...

    - taxis while in port. $5-20 per trip.

    - shopping while in port. Take plenty of $1, 5 and 10s in US dollars for shopping in the port.

    - your shopping budget depends on what you plan to buy while in port.  A few bucks for trinkets more bucks if planning on buy jewelry.

My sister only takes about $300 and uses a cash account on-board so she does not overspend.  I use a credit card and I usually get sticker shock when my statement is delivered on the last day.

  3. I have been on eight cruises and I have found that $100 per day covers everything (shore excursions, tips, souvenirs ...).  This does not have to be all in cash, since you can set up your on board account with a credit card and the stores on land also accept credit cards.
