I have two blue gill in my tank. The other day they ganged up on my goldfish. Now he has no scales and delve loped this white stuff on his side's. We since got rid of the blue gill gill. So what do we do for the goldfish? Will he make it? He is eating good still.

  1. put your goldfish in another fish bowl but the ones that are shaped like a sphere.

  2. Melafix, watch the fish closely.

The white stuff sounds like infection / fungus.

He will probably make it if you treat him ASAP. Scales should grow back in a few weeks. Use some stress coat to help along. Good luck.

  3. you can buy drops to put in the water to stimulate the growth of the parts on him that were damaged.

  4. I would get some stress coat and add it to the tank. Keep a very close eye on him, he is still eating so that is a good sign.

Blue gills are a very territorial fish and if not kept in a large enough tank will fight.

Also they can get up to 16" for a northern blue gill (the size of a dinner plate)

I would also put a bit of salt in the water to help with stress, but only one time and make sure you dissolve it in water before you add it to the tank.

  5. You did the first step...get rid of the blue-gills....if he is the only one left in the tank, keep him in there and treat him with medicine for the repair of his scales. a good sign is that he is eating.
