I've had my hunting license for many years, but have never hunted, I've often wondered if people who hunt cougar, puma, coyote or wolf actually eat them, and if so....how does it taste? I've had venison, bear, wild boar and alligator, just curious.....

  1. Although my old pappy used to tell me that old-time cowboys on trail drives and in dire need of food would cook (well-done) nearly anything they could shoot:  He specifically meantioned coyote and wild cats, I wouldn't do it.  Why?  Well these critters tend to be infested with parasites.  So... Take it with a grain of salt!

  2. I'vd never eaten any cougars, coyotes, etc. so I have no idea of how they taste.  The Indians ate many things that we would not find to our taste but even they never did eat cougars nor coyotes.  Since what they ate was dictated by what was available and what they needed for subsistance, the fact taht they didn't eat these animlas indicates to me that they must not be very palatable.  I'm sure that there would be nothing wrong with the meat so if you want to give it a try to see what it tastes like, go ahead but if I were you, I'd cook the meat thoroughly to be sure that you are not exposed to any parasites that may be in or on the meat.

  3. Actually all of that is edible, follow these links for recipes.

    Cougar: http://www.gamerecipe.net/category/couga...

Puma: Would be the same as Cougar.

    Coyote: http://www.coyotehuntinginfo.com/coyote-...

I can't find any for wolf, but I would imagine it would be the same as Coyote.

    Hope this helped.

  4. It is said that you will eat anything if you are hungry enough.* I would have to be real hungry before I would.* However you can if you want to, it is edible.*
