  1. unfortunately the blades are pretty blunt on rentals (i say unfortunately because you need sharp edges to grip the ice). i've never cut myself on rental blades, but i have on my own skates after a sharpening.

the chances of someone skating over your hands are pretty slim, and can be reduced to nothing if you know how to fall and get up safely. make sure to try and land on your hip or butt if you fall as its kinder on your body (still no fun but still...) and try to relax into it, dont stiffen up. to get up do not put your hands on the ice. get onto your knees, then put one foot up and place your hands on that knee. push yourself up and you're ready to go!

i hope you have a good time :) happy birthday and happy skating!

  2. I've never heard of anyone getting their fingers cut by someone skating over them, but I guess it could happen.

  3. im going  ise sakting for my16th in july and just wondering

are the blades on the shop,

  4. rentals aren't that sharp, but be cautious of the toe picks im on the pre pre level and i cant tell you how many times i got scratched and cut by my toe picks, they ARE pointy!!!

oh yeah, have fun and happy almost 16th!!!(im bout to turn 13 and im soooo happy yay!)

  5. The blades are fairly sharp, though the rentals are quite a bit duller than when a skater owns their own pair of skates. You are more likely to be injured or killed in a car accident on the way to the rink rather than having your fingers ran over on the ice, it is a very rare occurrence.

  6. Most of the boots in icerinks today aren't great and the blades aren't particularly sharp. It's quite easy to get out of the way of hands and falling bodies =P even if you are a beginner so I wouldn't worry about it :]

  7. IF you fall, try not to fall like a ton of bricks. Try to let the energy of the fall go more horizontal than vertical. A quick little roll is good, or if you feel yourself falling, push off a little in the direction of the fall. You don't want the full weight of your body hitting one small part you your anatomy. Loosen up. You know how the drunk person is usually the one who survives the crash? That's because they don't usually brace themselves all stiff. You should fall like a rag doll, and skid as much as possible. Don't worry too much about someone skating over your fingers. try to avoid traffic, and if someone is coming at you when you fall, roll away if possible. At most rinks there are monitors that keep people from skating too fast. Most of the people doing figures and such are in the middle, and they are usually good enough to avoid collisions. Have fun!

  8. if they WERENT sharp is when id be more worried. if they are too dull, you wont be able to hold an edge and your blades will slip and slide all over the place. dont worry, its hard to skate over someones fingers. harder than  you would think. but relax and have fun! skating is fun!
