Question about installing xp from a certain cd.?

I really want to downgrade windows vista to windows xp. I have a CD that came with my Dell Desktop which has Windows XP Media Center on it. I was wondering if I could install it on my Gateway laptop which has Windows Vista Home Premium. In simpler terms:

1. Can I use my Dell Desktop Windows XP CD on my laptop from gateway?

2. If I can, will it erase any pictures or documents when I downgrade to XP?

  1. You sure can use your Dell CD, i use one on my toshiba all the time.

    Your files will be deleted, so back them up on a CD, DVD, USB stick, or external hard drive.


  2. no.  your dell cd has dell drivers ofr xp media center and not your gateway drivers.  google "what is a driver" if you dont know
