why are they choosing to go abroad to study?

Why some of them are only in high school and already venturing on their own

are their school not good?

They do it for international experience and more practical experience.

Asian schools are very good -- many times better than where they are going. Exchange students "venture out" to learn more about a bigger world! They want to expand their horizons and learn about new cultures and new people. Additionally, many want to improve their English (or other language) skills and the best way to do that is immersion.
