  1. Eddie d. and terry lipham...were both 5"6

and pincay rode at 117lbs for 10 years.....

if that is your dream, go for it.....

you can also be a exercise jockey and weigh up to

    130lbs......good luck and racing!!!!

  2. How about considering a career as a harness racing driver.  They probably don't have a weight or height requirement.  Not perfect but you're still in racing.

  3. I'm 5'6" and I'm also going to be a jock!!! Maybe I'll see ya on the track someday!

  4. well your height is fine but you will need to work on your weight you will need tobe under 110 to start riding and not younger then 16 or older then 30.....i was 28 when i started riding but exercised for ten years before i decided to ride my weight was 103 so the lighter you are the better....

  5. The weight limit is a little more relaxed over in Europe, that's why  Steve Cauthen moved his tack over there.

"However, as he left his teens and matured, he had increasing problems making weight. In 1979 he moved to England, where jockeys normally compete at higher weights, and became a highly successful rider there. His move and first ride were very high profile in the UK. His very first ride in the UK resulted in a winner, when Marquee Universal, trained by Barry Hills won the Grand Foods Handicap at Salisbury Racecourse on April 7th 1979. Cauthen was British Champion Jockey three times, and won English classic races ten times, including the Two Thousand Guineas, the Epsom Derby twice, and the St. Leger Stakes three times. He also won the Irish Oaks twice and in 1989 rode European Horse of the Year, Old Vic to victory in the 1989 French Derby and the Irish Derby. In 1991 he won the Derby Italiano."

  6. jockey's can weigh no more than 115 pounds...there is no height requirement but I do believe that most jockeys are 5'2" and under...most being under 5'.  Check this link out...it has some info. on how to work your way up to a jockey.
