Question about joining the RAF

If i were to join the RAF and was selected as a pilot. Would i ever be expected to do any ground work like go on patrols?

There will be ground drills, and survival courses.

You could qualify as an observer to accompany a company etc, to liaise with the aircraft, but that would be a choice I believe.
