  1. Sometimes, but it's not the rule.

  2. Six hundred years ago in England, jurors were put in a room without food or heat in order to speed their deliberations. That process evolved into what is now sequestration, but in most cases that is not necessary.

  3. That's pretty rare. Also, I don't think you have to be a reg voter any more to get jury duty. They also pull people with a driver's license.

  4. sequestered cases are rare. I recently had to serve on federal jury duty and we were told that the U.S. Government (in that district) would reimburse us (not pay for) the cost of lodging IF we had to serve on a jury, AND if we had to remain there by judge's orders, and ONLY IF we lived 60 miles away or more (wouldn't you know it, my home was 57.2 miles from the courthouse). I wouldn't spend a whole lot of time worrying about this, unless you live in the middle of a big city and all their cases are murder cases. You are muchmore likely to be called for a circuit court or county court trial than a big federal case, if you are even called at all. Sequestering (forcing the jury to stay together) IS done, it is just rare.

  5. Most of the time you only get called for jury duty in your home town/city. Therefore, you usually have to stay at home. I know lots of people who have been called and served on juries, none have had any luxuries attached. My dad was mad they didnt even get lunch and his lasted 5 days, 8 hours per day. It would depend on your state, but most are similar SORRY! not worth it :)

  6. Only a tiny tiny percentage of really sensative cases require that the jurors are sequestered.  For nearly all cases, you go home each day (if it lasts longer than a day) just as if you were going to work.
