  1. Like myself, many people don't take it very seriously. I knit and crochet to relieve boredom and to keep busy while watching TV, etc. Seldom do I make something to share with others, but when I do, then I take time to check the gauge.

  2. I am one of those irritating people you are talking about.  I use the same size needles for nearly all my work & the same or very similar yarn for it.  If it looks right to me, that is all that matters.  I have developed an eye for guage & will adjust things as I go or even afterward, if needed.  I am sorry if it bothers you that some of us don't follow the rules exactly but this is a creative process & the creative type isn't usually worried about rules.

I taught myself to knit a couple of years ago & started out measuring everything 3 times & still s******g it up.  I realized I was defeating the purpose of my learning knitting in the first place -- TO RELAX.  I propose you learn to do the same.  Have fun with your knitting & you will see things aren't so bad when you wing it.  Besides, not everyone sees things the same way & where you see people not following the rules, others see innovators!  Keep your perspective in life & all other things will work themselves out.
