The tip is for the service and not shared with the cooks! The waiter/waitress has nothing to do with how the food tastes. Your parents are so wrong!

what made the food taste bad? maybe you good talk to the manger maybe even get a discount. They want you to like their establishment so you will come back.As far as the tip remember that service industry people get paid about 2 dollars an hour so they are dependent on your tip. if they did a good job then you should tip them. it isnt their fault the food wasn't good lol.

Yes, the tip is normally a reward for good service from the server.

Of course you should leave a tip for your server.  He or she is only SERVING the food... they don't run to the back and cook it.  Tell your parents if they're not satisfied with their meal, they should make their server aware of that... and it's the server's job to make them happy!  Whether it's having the dish re-cooked or putting in an order for an entirely different meal.  Sometimes the only way to make that "right" for the customer is to void that entire meal off of the check.

Taste of food has NOTHING to do with the server (unless MAYBE if the food is cold - then again, that's not ALWAYS your server's fault - make him or her aware of that)  Maybe your parents should stick to Burger King!  I'd be embarrassed too if I were you!

I hate leaving tips. But I do. I tip for the waitress. If the food sucked which it usually does, I still tip. I hate eating out. Especially in the town I live in. Cost way too much.

the tip is for the service not the food but on your way out you should quietly speak to the manager about the quality of the food and add that you liked the service
