Question:

Question about left turns?

I know this is probably silly question. If you are in the only left turn lane, but there are two lanes on the street you're turning on to, is it okay to turn into the farther lane? (As long as there is no one turning right into the same lane, of course) Is it okay only with a signal-controlled intersection?

  1. You are always supposed to make a lane to lane turn, regardless of whether it's a left hand or right hand turn..  SO no, you should really turn into the left lane, the lane that the tuning lane leads into.

Is this what people do?  No.  But it's how the driving schools teach and the safest way to drive.  Technically, you can be ticketed for not staying in your lane.

  2. Armona has it correct...

you should turn left into the left lane, then use your blinker to move into the right lane.  That is how all of the Drivers Manuals for each state explain how to make a left turn.

Good question though... too bad nobody obeys the rule! :)

  3. I am answering, assuming that you are driving in the USA, and are turning from a two way street onto another two way street.

In California, if there is a single left turn lane, you can finish the turn in any lane going in the same direction.  If there are muliple left turn lanes, such a two, the vehicle in the far left turn lane must finish in the far left lane.  The driver in the second left turn lane must finish in the second, or any other lane to the right.

  4. Two left's don't make a right. But three do.

  5. No turn left into the left lane always for safety reasons.....................

  6. NO!! Cause the person coming the other way may turn right into that lane thats why it is not legal! You must turn into the inside lane only.
