How should the magnet in the picture move in order for a current of the indicated direction to appear in the ring?

  1. By the right-hand rule the current is producing a magnetic field to the left. Lenz`s law states that a current will arise to oppose the change in magnetic flux.  If the current is produced to make a magnetic field to the left then the magnetic flux must be increasing to the right. therefore the magnet must move right to produce that current.
