Question about luggage and security precautions when flying?

im going to oregon next month and i was just wondering about the security precautions they take at the airport.do they search you?can they see in your luggage?do they look in it in anyway?i havent flown in years so i don't know the precautions they take now.thanks for any answers they'll help me out.

LIQUIDS:

if you want to take any "liquids" in hand luggage, they have to be in containers 3oz or less, in a clear resealable plastic bag of 1 quart or smaller.  You have to take that bag out of your hand luggage at security and they scan it separately.

"liquid" means anything you can spread, smear, pour (so lipstick is a "liquid"!)

PERSONAL SCREENING

You will have to walk through a metal detector .  You will be told by the TSA agent and lots of signs what you have to take off (jacket, belt, in some places shoes, watch).  If you set off the metal detector, you will have a hand-pat-down and hand-held metal detector waved across your body/legs to find out what is setting off the alarm.  

CHECKED LUGGAGE

You can still take liquids in larger quantities in your checked luggage.  Check with your airline how much luggage you can take free - American is already charging for the first item, US + UNited are starting charges for first bag later this year.  Checked baggage will go through an x-ray in the baggage hall (away from your view).  TSA also hand check random suitcases.  You should lock your bags with a TSA approved lock - then they can open and re-lock it.

HAND BAGGAGE

goes through an x-ray screening at the security point.  Take the liquids bag and any large electricals out of the bag for separate screening (laptop, large video camera).  If they see anything unusual or that they can not identify, your bag may be hand searched.  

Don't get worried - they have seen absolutely everything in bags.  As long as you're not carrying anything illegal, they won't make any comments.  I think you can request a private area for a bag search....but this is likely to take longer and result in a more intensive search as they get annoyed at what they see as "hassle"

No they do not open your suitecase. But they do put it throught a exray. Your carry on also goes through the exray. Your purse ect.ect.
