What is the approximate cost, per mile, for building a maglev train system in the U.S.

  1. A lot more than conventional trains.  I'm not sure of the exact figures, but for a conventional system you only need blocks of wood, tracks, rivets, and to cover it with concrete or stones.  Plus the train of course.  Perhaps sometime in the future we'll get one ...


  2. There have been several studies. In one, the estimate for building the guideway was about $2K/linear foot, or about $10Million/mi. but that was just the guideway. Total system cost for a system is CA was on the order of $143Million/mi.(double track system)

    The Washington -Balmore MD (39.1 miles) has a cost estimite  of about $3.74 Billion
