My friend owns an eMachines W3629 desktop and it has 2x512MB RAM sticks in it (both slots occupied). The listing on the specifications of the computer say that it is only upgradeable to 2GB maximum but he wants to upgrade it to 3GB. Will it work. He doesn't want to buy it untill he knows it works.

  1. Yeah 2GB is the max for that MOBO. have to upgrade the MOBO to get more than 2GB in there

  2. .....it say the max is 2...and he wants three...

common sense should answer this problem

  3. YEAH....it'll work...thats basically OVERCLOCKING....just make sure he buys a nice AC cooler fan and install it when he upgrade cause the computer will get pretty hot without one.....and if he does it without buying or installing a nice cooling system....there's a possibility that it WILL blow a whole in his mother board...... :-) other than that he's ok to go on...

and when the manufacturer say the max is 2gb, or 3gb....its actually higher than than....they just label it that way for protective purposes so people wont get hurt by OVERCLOCKING over the limit....heh heh....

  4. you already answered this que answer..

  5. he should use 2X1024 mb which is the largest supported capacity and the system will work fine with it
