Question about metal piece in mouth w/ braces?

Question

Ok so when I got my braces on in January they also put in this metal bar thing. Its not a Palate Expander!!!!! I used to suck on my fingers until I got braces so he put this in to prevent me from doing it. Now he is taking it out next week and i just want to know what it is called before I get it taken out.
