  1. laula has confused Methamphetamine and Methadone. "Meth" or Methamphetamine is an illegal type of home cooked speed wheras Methadone is a legal prescription medication given at authorized clinics for opiate withdrawal such as Heroin, Oxycontin, Percocet, Oxycontin, Vicodin, etc. and also used in pain clinics for severe pain. Signs that someone may be taking it would only occur if the person was taking it without prescrioption because when properly prescribed at therapeutic doses it does not make you high or interfere with daily activities. However, those buying it illegaly from diverted sources may appear to have pinpoint pupils, nodding (so sleepy they doze of during talking, sitting still, eating, etc.,) often they will snore loudly and sleep deeply which may be a sign of overdose, decreased respirations, pulse, or BP, slurred speech, sweating, vomiting, etc.

  2. When someone is taking meth you can usually tell by the way they act. They may seem to be paranoid, may not be able to sit still, have abnormal amounts of energy and may be constantly scratching at their skin. Meth will not cause drowsiness as it makes your nervous system become more alert.

Those who have ADD or ADHD and take prescription medications for it such as Concerta or Ritalin take the medically prescribed form of methadone. Concerta and Ritalin will help those suffering from those disorders to concentrate, but street meth will only kill them in the end.

If you are concerned that someone close to you is using Meth, you should try to get them help right away. Meth is a debilitating addiction and overuse can cause death.
