Question about micro sd card for mobile?

I have just purchased a new Micro sdcard for my mobile and havent opened it yet cos it looks ever so slightly smaller than my original card. Do you think it will still fit? I have a sony ericsson 580i.

What should I do?

Sony does not use SD cards... they normally have pro stick .your cell has a internal memory of 12MB.

you are normally provided with a  512MB Memory Stick Micro™(M2™) media

you can update it to max -  (Memory Stick Micro™(M2™) media of up to 1GB supported)

If you're not sure then check out the manufacurers web site for full specs (i'm assuming you don't have the instruction manual as it would tell you in there).

well i would find somewhere where it clearly states that a Micro SD card will work for your phone, and if it says it does, try it and i should work.

The reason it's smaller is that you bought the wrong type of card!

Sony Ericsson mobiles use M2 Memory Stick cards, NOT Micro SD cards.

If it's still unopened take it back to the store and exchange it for a M2 Memory Stick card.

on your cellphone itself where the SD slot is placed, it is written what kind of SD card is possible for that either a Micro SD or a Mini SD. check it very well. but even if you had purchased the Micro even if your phone is for Mini, that SD memory card, as i'm assuming, there is an adapter with it (well, i think it depends on the country perhaps, as in our country for mini there is an adapter in every micro purchased SD memory. so check it also). and lastly, i am assuming also that stores do sell SD memory sticks by section. so if you approached to the cellphone section, then that memory stick is for cellphones as there are memory sticks for camera, etc. don't be mistaken for that.
