I was looking and I saw that a kid can work under 14 in idaho if at his parents work. It seems like it only cancels out the age limit. Even if hes under 13 does he still have to be paid minimum wage because he is still working at a really job?

  1. Outside of waitstaff, the kid would still have to be paid the minimum.  Now cutting lawns and such is up to the consenting parties.

  2. There are (or were) exceptions to the law.  Wait staff are excluded because of tips.  Companies that do not engage in interstate commerce used to be and probably still are.

  3. Agricultural workers are exempt from the Federal Min. Wage.

Technically, say it was a restaurant, he would have to be paid min. wage, but if his parents were the owners, then he could be paid min. wage on paper but actually make less. Similar to other under-the-table arrangements that may ocurr in order to side-step the min. wage.

  4. Nobody can legally earn less than the federal minimum wage. There are no exceptions to this law.
