Question:

Question about moving out of an apt/giving notice?

I have no lease, and am planning on moving out by 9/1. On Sunday night, I left my landlord a note with some of August's rent. I informed her that I'd be moving out by the end of the month, and asked that she call me. It's been 3 days and no phone call. Is she waiting out for the 1st to see if I verbally tell her I'm leaving? If I don't re-address the situation, can I get in any trouble if she says she didn't get the note and that I didn't give proper notice? What do I do? Should I just call her on the 1st to confirm? Or am I okay with doing what I did?

  1. it would be best to send her a certified letter stating your intention to leave and on what date.  That way there is no confusion and she can't say she did not know.

It is always best to do these kinds of things in writting.

  2. Call her on the first for confirmation, and request a move out notice from her.

    Documentation is always important...

  3. Just to be safe make up another "notice to vacate" letter and keep  a copy for yourself. Also it wouldn't hurt to call her and see if she received the letter or you could hand deliver the letter to her.
