  1. L.A. is fun to visit but I couldn't imagine living there.  You can smell the disappointment in the air-everyone wants show business.

Being that it's very expensive to live there, one would have to make a lot of money to afford decent housing, which means better schools.

  2. You certainly don't need to be in LA to become a writer. With all the time you'll be working to afford living there I doubt you'll be writing much anyways.

  3. I would suggest moving to LA after you get your writing career going and have made some money from it. It is very expensive to live there, and you'll have to either work a lot or have a really good paying job.

  4. Oh dear......that guy that answered first doesn't really know what he's talking about.  The people he's referring to that reek of desperation are people that came here thinking they're the next big thing.  Yes, I suppose it's more expensive to live out here, but if you are serious about wanting to be a writer, you probably already realize that you will be poor for a while anyway-ha ha.  ;)  L.A. is probably one of the better places in the U.S. to work from if you're interested in the media.

As for schools, I'm assuming you mean schools for you to attend, right?  Not like, schools to send little kids or whatever? (sorry, was just a little thrown by the previous guy's response to that question, so wanted to clarify) I'm not a writer or journalist, but we do have some pretty great institutions of higher learning for you to choose from.  I would guess that they will have programs to fit your choice of career.  L.A. is an amazing place to live-maybe some people that come here from other places can't handle the higher cost of living, or the realization that they're just not that talented, etc, etc....but quality of life here is wonderful.  I say that and I'm pretty poor-ha ha...there's always stuff to do.  So just look into the writing and/or media programs at schools in the L.A. area and decide for yourself if they offer what you're looking for.

    Good luck :)
