Question:

Question about my 8 week old and his feeding schedule

My son who is a little over 12 lbs only eats 2-4 oz every 2-3 hours Occasionally he'll ask for food only an hour and a half after eating last. I thought by now he'd be eating a little bit more and going longer between feeds. I've tried offering 5-6 oz but he stops at 4 oz. Does this sound right? I guess every baby is different, but I thought at his age and weight he's be eating more.

He's so close to sleeping through the night (6 hrs currently), I would love to get that extra oz in him so he does!

Has anybody else experienced this? Or have any tips? Or do I have to just wait and see when one day he'll take more?

Thanks for your help with my little snacker!

  1. My son was also eating 4oz every 4 hours until about 3 months and then it was about half the time 4 oz and half the time 5 oz, but he ended up eating every 3 hours instead of every 4. ANd now at 4 months he eats 6oz every 3 hours.

  2. i finally found another mom whos baby eats what my baby does lol.

shes 2 months and she is 11lbs and 10oz. she eats the exact same way you said your lil one does.

but the doc said its ok.

but it sucks so bad bec she doesnt really sleep more than 3-4 hrs at night. so i am always tired bec i have to get up with her to feed her about every 2 hrs =[

    but shes worth it.

i think im going to try feeding her more at a time and see how that works!

  3. All babies are different and they are all on their own feeding schedule. If he's only eating 4 oz. now then only give him that, no since in wasting formula. Make sure you're burping him after every couple of ounces. I find my baby won't eat more if he has a bubble, after he burps he'll finish his bottle. In a couple weeks or so try giving him 5 oz. and see how he takes it. For now, though, it's pretty much feed on demand.
