Question about my Mystery Snail?

I have either a mystery snail or an apple snail in my 10 gallon aquarium currently with just my betta. My question is will it keep growing? And if so do I need to add more shells that are bigger in the tank for it? If I do need to buy more shells for it where would I be able to get them? All I have really where I live is a Walmart there is a small petstore but they don't have much for supplies...so a website would be most helpful! Thanks!

  2. Yes, it will keep growing to the size of a golf ball.

No, you do not need bigger shells as their shells grow with them.

    Extra Info:

No, they are not hermaphrodites, or self cloning.

They would need a partner of the opposite s*x to reproduce.

You should feed it boiled collards for the calcium. They love it!

If your snail reaches over the size of a golf ball then more than likely it is a cana snail.

  3. Snails make their own shell and it will grow as the snail grows so you don't have to get shells for it like you do with a hermit crab.  I don't know how big it is now, so it's possible that it could keep growing.

  4. Snails make their own shells, you do not have to put shells in the tank for them.  Apple snails get to be about as big as a baseball and mystery snails get to be about an inch and a quarter in diameter.

  5. A mystery snail question...YEA!

I have bout 15 of those boogers...and learned a while back, A Golden Mystery Snail will get with the Black Mystery Snail to make...offspring with a variety of colors in between.

2 inches is about right for these critters at max, but only under the right conditions...my biggest one was about that and the others are no where near that.

OH and I did know they would possibly mate if it was male and female...but ya really cant tell on the s*x of a snail.  However the big one I had must of been the female, since females get bigger than the males.  Either way, one snail in a 10 Gallon, no worries at all.  Just don't get another for that tank.

Their shell grows with them and you can even see the marks when the shell is growing.  It's kind of cool cause you can see when its still soft and the marks from each time there was significant growth.

    Best of Luck!

  6. the only time snails come into yr tank is through feeding yr fish too much basically over feeding or if u have live plants u dont need to add bigger shells for them as they will regrow there shells as they get bigger
