  1. Surely, your grandfather can remember his own parents' names or any brothers and sisters he had (I often find people I'm searching for by looking up their children's names).

www.familysearch.org has Egypt and other mideastern countries listed.

www.cyndislist.com has several pages on Middle-Eastern genealogy, including Egypt.

Remember, it doesn't take a truck-load of information to start your family tree. You start with yourself (full name, birth date, birth location, parents' names, sisters and brothers, etc. and work your way backwards.) If you can find out any info from your grandpa and still have problems, my email is in my profile. Maybe I can help a little.

  2. You can go the DNA test route.  It will show migration routes.

national geographic shows routes but I don't recommend doing their test it is very simplistic.  Go to like FamilytreeDNA or something like that.

do other more comphrehensive test and you can compare results to national geographic maps.

you would want the oldest male in your family to do the test if they would be willing.  Otherwise then you can do it yourself.

Also, you can start making a geneology chart yourself for your own descendants.  Include whatever information as far as customs and photos and personalities from your family. It is kind of like online scrapbook. Those things are nice to have especially as time goes by :)

I am jewish studying geneology and it's amazing studying the difference and similarities in the peoples.  You'll see a connection with some egyptians in the geneology and how other peoples connect.  Some Ashkenazi Jews descended from 4 matriarchs and some Egyptians did too. It's fascinating!

Quote: "the Technion team found that some people in Egypt, Arabia and the Levant also carried the set of mutations that defines one of the four women."

You might also find that you are distantly related to Persians, as they did rule Egypt for a short time in ancient times.

Quote: "Palestinians are genetically very close to Jews and other Middle East populations, including Turks (Anatolians), Lebanese, Egyptians, Armenians and Iranians."
