Question about my braces...?

The last time I went to my orthodontist(June 2) I had two broken brackets that were loose the day that I got my bottom braces(May 7). They didn't glue them back on though. They said I was ready for 'bands'. They didn't explain anything to me or my mom. They just told us that I needed two appointments 3 week from now. I went on vacation(June 19) and the date my mom wanted(June 18) was too soon. So my dad called the office once we bought the plane tickets(We didn't have them at the time) and made the appointments for July 21(Today) and July 28(Next week). I was wondering what they meant by I was ready for bands. I already have molar bands(I got them when I got my braces) and I can't find anything about it on the internet. Why do I need two appointments? And what are they going to do today?

  1. Bands are little rubber bands that will hook onto the small hooks connected to the brackets, bands are just help keep the teeth moving back and into position. They'll put the hooks on today most likely, it doesn't hurt at all, just remember to keep wearing the bands unless you're eating. :D

  2. When my orthodonist said bands they always meant the rubber band that was attached to the braket that keeps the wire in place.

They could also mean rubber bands that hook your top and bottom together.

Or they could mean they are putting a chain across your brackets- which just pulls them extra tight.

2 appointments mean that they want to monitor you more closley than usual. It could just be a temporary treatment.

  3. The orthodontist can be confusing. At first, I thought only "bands" mean the metal rings that wrap around your molars.

That's very strange that they let a few brackets hang loose and break off. Usually if that happens, they try to squeeze you in on the next day they are open to fix it.

Maybe you don't need brackets on those teeth?  Or maybe they simply meant to say they would put brackets on your teeth, instead of bands.  They could mean the colored bands that go around the brackets.  I don't think they mean chains...which are colored and connect the brackets.

One appointment is probably just to fix the broken ones...and the other is probably just to check on your teeth to see how they have moved.

  4. *bands* probably mean elastics i had those there not that bad

  5. you need the appointments for you bands that go in the back for teeth two at top n two at the bottom

  6. he ment you are ready for these small like rubber bands they put in your month:)

  7. ya i agree there is no way to tell they are probably putting bands over your brakets to close a gap or something

  8. well when i got "bands" for my braces, they were between the top of my mouth and the bottom so basically the attaatch to one bottom and one top bracket to restrict how far you can open your mouth. You may just need two appointments so they can check that they're working and not hurting you or something?

    hope it goes ok!

  9. They will just put bands on for like your over bite or your under bite that is what they did with me..
