Question:

Question about my cornsnake?

My cornsnake is getting ready to shed pretty soon. ( I looked at his eyes, and they where cloudy like he was blind, I freaked, asked a question on here, got oodles of answers saying he was going to shed) So, My question is, yesterday, i went to pick him up, just to see if he was ok, and It seemed like he didn't want to be held, so I put him back, and he slithered back underneath his water dish. So they do get a little cranky before shedding, right? So, when should I be expecting him to shed? Is there anything special that he needs..? he has stuff he can rub against if he needs to. Just some tips is all I need. That would be awesome. Thanks.

  1. Don't worry at all. Most snakes dont like to be held during shedding. It varies with your snake, but most shed within 1-4 days after the eyes go clear. You also want to make sure to raise your humidity to about 70% when their shedding, which is very important to make sure they get a full shed. You can do that by simply misting the cage with a water bottle.

  2. Create humidity for the cage...Possibly get Moss from pet store or a wet moist (no dripping) towel (no paper towel)

His eyes will go back normal so, probably tomorrow or saturday he will shed! My Corn snake did the same thing!

  3. You just need to get a misting water bottle to spray the cage once a day. He should shed in the next week. And yes, they get pretty cranky because they can't see. My big boa is getting ready to shed and when I tried to move him to a different cage he was hissing and opening his mouth - he was mad. But it's only because they can't see which makes them mad. I hope this helps.
