Question about my dog that just got spayed.?

Last night me, my mom and my little brother went to an animal shelter to adopt a dog. We found a wonderful dog named Jazzy. Jazzy had given birth to a puppy, and the puppy had been given to a new home.

They told us she was spayed yesterday (two days from today) so she still has her stitches and all, ya know. And she was acting very calm Im guessing some of that is from the surgery, we dont know Jazzy too well yet but they told us she was perfect for our living conditions.

Anyway, we brought her to Petsmart yesterday to get her stuff, my mom had to pick her up to put her in the car and all and she seemed fine. Btw shes a lab mix. Weighs maybe 30-40 pounds we dont know much about her history. Last night when my mom was petting her, she was very content. Then she let out a quick yelp. It was high-pitched and so it scared us but then she was fine again. Then today when she was home with me, sometimes she would be sitting in the diningroom and I think she was scared because she heard something and she did it some more.

Then later tonight my mom layed down on the floor with her and didnt even touch her and she started yelping for like 30 seconds. And it seems whenever my mom lys on the floor. But she acts like she is in pain and has trouble getting up during it and then she just walks away.

We are concerned what this is about adn we dont know if it has to do with the surgery or something totally different. Any help would be appriciated=]

  1. It is possible it is pain from the surgery.  It is the same as a woman getting a hysterectomy.  Did you get a free vet visit when you adopted the dog?  Either way take her to the vets.  They can give you pain medicine to give her.  Dogs have different thresholds of pain just like people.  But it wouldn't hurt to have her checked to make sure everything is OK.

  2. The best advice I can give you is to get her to a vet or the shelter where she as spayed.  It may or may not have anything to do with the surgery.   Thank you for adopting and not buying.  Good luck.

  3. This is only my opinion but since it has only been 48-72 hours since the spay it is probably a little discomfort. She may have moved abruptly and pulled a stitch slightly.  If she is not better by Monday then I would take her to your Vet. Also if you noticed anything different about the site, any discharge or change contact Vet immediately. A call won't hurt if you are concerned.
