Question about my due date ?

Hi I know they give you a due date based on your last period and they give you 2 weeks before or after your due date for you baby to come etc, as basically you dont concieve at the time of your last period,

However I know when you have your first scan all this goes out of the window as it goes from how many weeks your baby is etc, the thing is when I went to my midwife before I had my scan they give me my due date as teh 4th of september, so I thought I was around 10-11 weeks when I would have my scan, when I went to have my scan it said I was 12 weeks 1 day so I was about a week to 2 weeks more that I thought, but this only altered my due date by 1 day.

I am 38 weeks exactly today but I have just seen another question on here saying that this lady is 38 weeks today like me but the midwifes have given her the 1st september as her due date. I know mine is only a few days over, but surely one of our dates is wrong as if we are both 38 weeks today how can one be give the 1st and the other given the 3rd.

I know I can either go now or go over etc, but its just im curious why our dates due dates are not exact.

  1. who knows, maybe the person was mistaken that said she was 38 weeks today.  Don't sweat the small stuff, it's really not a big deal.

  2. Only 4% of babies arrive on the due date. Different ovens cook at different rates.

  3. dont worry, its never an exact science, its roughly 39-40 wks altogether, but hey, baby will come when he/she is ready and not before. you cant plan it exactly so just relax ok?

  4. due dates are always a rough estimate... also, maybe she was actually 38 weeks and a day.. or 38 weeks and two days.

I've always rounded up, it just gets me excited.

I know that only %5 of babies are actually born on their due date, and most of them are induced by that point.

All i'm concerned about is that my baby will come. and that's all.

october 10th is my due date, and i'm just going on early october. that's all.

    And i'm absolutely thrilled!

**The same thing happend to me, Emoja, I got one due date by a card board wheel stating that my due date is october 10 and then when I formaly got an OB, he gave me a due date of october 12.

When people ask me when my due date is, I tell them it's the 11th! :)**

  5. If the babies are at different stages of development even if they are the same age, then they wont come out untill they are ready.

But remember you have different midwifes. So everyone is going to judge slightly differrently and it only VERY slight

  6. midwives dont often bother with being exact with the due dates - they're often a day or two out either side. Plus you can easily count a day out as this year was a leap year.

  7. It's not an exact science. I had two different doctors give me two different due dates, even going off the same last-menstrual-period date. One was using some sort of cardboard wheel to estimate the due date, and the other doctor used a computer to do it. The dates were only a couple of days apart though - and those couple of days don't matter anyway. Chances are your baby won't be born on the exact due date, it's very rare (although mine was born on his due date :)

    Congratulations and good luck!
