He steals all of my babies stuff that he can possibly drag.

He steals candy. He sleeps in drawers. So we put him in his and we keep him in there. Are there anyways to train him to not touch stuff?

Or any activities to do with him so he is not bored?

  1. Thats what you get when you buy a ferret. Thats the way they are. The word ferret mean theif in latin so that explains everything.

  2. Meaning of ferret (verb)

    forms: ferreted; ferreted; ferreting

search and discover through persistent investigation!

Oh that is such a ferret thing to do, in fact it is their job. That's what makes them so adorable!  Please don't try to keep him from doing what he is meant to do.

If you don't want him to steal things, pick them up before you let him ferret about.  Get him his own toys, and yes, if he loves your baby toys so much, give him the old used toys. Put them in a low sided box and put new toys in it every month.  It is important to keep him away from the candy because just like us, he is addicted to sugar but it has a more devastating effect on his little carnivorous body.  Ferrets short digestive tracts do not do well with the sugars and if fed over time causes the pancreas to over stimulate and create tumors.

As you probably know, ferrets are very intelligent animals! They have a high capacity for learning that lends itself to a natural curiosity, and their various senses give them a wealth of information. Unfortunately, domesticated ferrets don’t have nearly the amount of stimuli in their environment that they need, which is where the concept of “ferret enrichment” comes into play. The main point in enrichment is to stimulate the ferrets natural  habitat and activities stimulating his natural instincts, innate intelligence and curiosity.

Start with Turning your ferret’s cage into a real habitat, if it isn't one already.  Nest boxes, seperate toilet area, seperate food area, hanging sacks, hammocks, tunnels, hanging ropes to climb.  Make his cage like he would make his home if left to his own resources.  Make sure your ferrets experience something new everyday.  Rearrange their play space frequently. Group their various toys into a few groups, and rotate those groups at random to make sure that they retain interest in the various toys. Make or purchase a dig box, but only have it out for them to play with occasionally throughout the week. The concept of novelty can also include new tastes, smells, sights, textures, etc. Take one of their toys, and spray it with a scent such as lavender or vanilla, or put it in a Ziploc bag with some potting soil. Ferrets have an amazing sense of smell, and changing the odor of a toy or blanket is enough to make it new for them. Try taking a rubber tub and filling it with soil to let them play in it – they’ll love the smell and the feel of it. If it’s winter, fill the tub with snow. If it’s fall, fill the tub with leaves.

Mine help me clean and make beds.  They love to play parachute with the blankets.  Paper bags are great caves to explore.  I also allow them to shower with me if they want.  Be creative.  Remember the ferret is a weasel and weasel in the wild live in tunnels and dark well protected dens.  Try to make your ferrets home like a den and his play area like a playground. He will appreciate it and you will enjoy him more.

  3. sounds like you have a typical ferret, it's there nature to steel, the easiest thing to do is keep the stuff that you do not want him to have up out of his reach when he is out, and get him some toys. I had one that loved hot wheels cars another who had a fascination with pop cans, tennis balls, the cats little jingles balls and toy mice. You just gotta see what ur ferret likes, they all have different personalitys and love different toys. you might want to consider going to a flea market or something and getting him some of same kinds of toys he is steeling
