  1. Are you using a wireless router.  If so you may need to make sure your network card is connecting to the router.

First, disable your firewall and see if you can connect.  If this

works, you need to make sure your firewall allows internet access.    If this does not work, you should, if using windows

2000 or XP load a command prompt by finding run on the

windows start menu, typing CMD then hit the OK button.

In the black command box, type the command IPCONFIG

and be sure you are getting an IP address such as 192.something, usually 192.168.0.some number

or if using DSL and a 2wire router 172.something .

If you get 169 point anything, you are not connecting to the

internet.  Even if you get the 192  point something IP

    still type IPCONFIG/release and IPCONFIG/renew

the release command will give you a 0.0.0.0 ip and the renew command will give you back your new IP.

You may need to configure your security for your wireless network card.  If you continue not to get on the net, find a friend who is a whiz at computers and networking and have

them look at the machine,  contact technical support for

your ROUTER or your network card (or computer if network

    card was installed at purchase.

  2. Go to Network Connections

Select the connection you are using

    right click > select properties

    Scroll down to TCP/IP

    Highlight it and select properties

see how it is set up, especially the section for DNS servers

Now do the same thing on another computer without the problem

If they are different, make yours the same as theirs

Next thing to check is the firewall setup. See if some websites are blocked

    Good Luck
