Question:

Question about my new glasses...?

I just got new glasses. The prescription changed slightly and they are new (and different) frames. I feel sort of cross-eyed, is that normal? I had the same glasses for years and am not sure if the new ones should feel like this... Thanks!

  1. Give it 48 hours if they are still not comfortable to see through, take them back and complain. Sounds to me as though they are the wrong prescription. Don't wait any longer.

  2. I have worn glasses for years and never had that problem.  I do always feel a bit off for a while.  I feel taller, if that makes any sense.  It's actually kind of funny.  I would love to see the way I walk out of the eye doctors office.  I guess everyone is different.  Wait it out a few days.

  3. Glasses can be really hard to ajust to. What you need to do is wear them as much as possible every day until you don't get that "crossed eye" feeling like you are experiancing now. Sometimes you can get a headache though so if that happens, take something like ibeprofin or tylnol and take them off for an hour or too.

  4. i feel exactly the same way every time i update my prescription.  i call it the "fishbowl" effect.  i allow myself 2 weeks until i call my optometrist to complain, but usually i've adjusted and am loving my new vision by then.

give it time, but if it doesn't feel right, try contacting your eye doctor :)

  5. There is usually an adjustment period when you get new specs, especially if it's been awhile since you've changed them.  Even if the RX didn't change much, you'll probably notice a difference.  This can be because of the frame fit or where the lens is positioned.  Did they adjust the frame for you when you picked them up?  Are they single vision or bifocal?  It should start to get better, but if you still have a cross-eyed feeling after a few days stop back in to have your PD (the distance between your pupils) checked and make sure that it matches up to the glasses.   A proper adjustment can make all of the difference as well.

    Good luck!

  6. New glasses always cause problems. Do not worry, it is just temporary. You can ask your doctor why you are having this particular problem, but it is my guess that you'd have to pay for an office visit.

Be patient and if within a week or so you can't get used to the glasses, go in. It could be that the glasses just need to be adjusted again to fit better.

I'll also bet that you've needed new glasses for awhile. Don't wait so long next time.
