Question:

Question about my period and swimming?

by  |  earlier

I have my period, I got it yesterday, and tomorrow my uncle is taking my and my cousins swimming. Is there any way I can go swimming without having to use a tampon because they hurt a lot when I try to put them in. What if I wear bathing suit bottoms (bikini bottoms) and then wear bathing suit shorts. Will that work? I know it sounds gross but I REALLY hate wearing tampons.

Thanks!

  1. try Instead!  soft cups.  They are an alternative to pads and tampons.  Takes a little bit to get comfortable using them, But I promise, as u get older u will realize they are a god-send!  Please go to the site and educate yourself!

  2. if you wear a pad, it's going to end up being soaked with water. and bl.... well. you know.

  3. You MUST use a tampon or moon/diva cup or you WILL bleed into the water.

Bottoms and shorts WILL NOT WORK...  you need to wear a tampon or you should not go swimming.

I've worn them since age 11, I'm 34 now, and I prefer tampons over pads.

  4. Don't swim with a sanitary towel on, it could end up being really embarassing for you. Go and see a nurse or someone you won't be embarassed with and see about tampons. They really are the best thing, if they're causing you pain odds are you're doing something wrong.

  5. NO NO NO!! Tampon is not the only solution. If you wear a pad, and then just before going to swim, remove it in the changing room. As soon as you remove it, get in the water within the 10 minutes.

As soon as you get inside, the pressure of the water will stop the blood coming out and not a single drop will flow.

Nobody will see anything and you will feel as if you did not have your period at this time!

but remember as soon as you get out of the water, go and change and put a pad!

    Good luck!

  6. yes you can bleed in water!  You have to wear a tampon in the pool, or sit this one out.  It is unsanitary and it will be embarrassing for you if you have an accident.  I know because I tried this when I was about 12, it ended badly.  Trust me.

  7. you have to wear a tampon if you're going to go swimming. its the only thing that will work...

  8. Pretty much the only sanitary thing you can do is wear a tampon. Try getting tampax pearl, those are easy to put in. And get slender, which will make it even easier to get in, you'll just have to change them more frequently cause they are smaller.

  9. You can't bleed while you're in a pool.

  10. See, the thing is, even if there is a way, you should consider the other people in the pool (or ocean or whatever). Would you want to swim in a pool with another person who has her period and is not wearing a tampon?

It shouldn't hurt if you insert in the right way, and it has to be 'deep' enough so that you won't feel a thing. Try using ones with applicators like Tampax's Pearls.

  11. umm unless it is really light i would not go into the pool without a tampon it could leek and be visible and get on your bathing suit and may get on your shorts its also not clean to do that i would try a tampon again and if your really worried about it ask your mom for help hope you can do it tampons dont hurt they are just a bit uncomfortable to put it the first few times you just got to shove it up

  12. If you're going swimming the only answer is tampons if you don't want your period to show. . if it hurts maybe you're not putting them in enough.

  13. tampons are really the best way. doubling up on bottoms won't stop leaking and even though water mostly stops it, you could still have some residual blood up there and it will leak out leaving some red in the water around you!

  14. no you need tampons

  15. your period can't continue in the pool there is too much pressure so you'll be fine in the water and when you get out it usually takes a few minutes before it starts back up again so you should have time to change. Don't believe these other girls they are just trying to scare you.

  16. okay tampons are really the only way to go however your period stop in water so you can go swimming with the bottoms and the shorts but 9 times out of 10, as soon as you get out of the water it will leak out so be careful!

  17. no way. you have to wear a tampon. it will drip down your leg if you don't.

Also, you don't necessarily bleed in the pool, but as soon as you hit the steps to get out, all that blood pours out so don't believe that myth.

  18. your only option is using a tampon

if it hurts your not using it right make sure you read the directions and just relax

if you dont you'll drip blood and if you sit down anywhere you'll leave stains..

but you could might just might put a thin pad and just tighten your bottom part of your swim suit..

and yeah you do bleed when you swim it just isnt as visible but dont ever under-estimate that statement

    best of luck

  19. you could probably get away with wearing a liner with the shorts, but i wouldn't recommend wearing a pad.  i'm 13 and i know for a fact your period is different when it's in the water, trust me!  it stops.  but right when you get out, especially that it's your second or third day, it's gonna bleed a lot.  so make sure to bring pads or extra liners with you.  but the safest way is to use tampons.  you don't have to worry about anything when you use them!  if you need help with tampons, add me to your contacts.  i'm like really good with them haha.

  20. you don't bleed while in the water. you bleed when you get out of the water. the tampon shouldn't hurt you though!

  21. Sorry, but tampon's are the best answer. While it may not be obvious you have your period while you're in the water, remember that whatever is getting washed away from you is sitting in the pool when you get out. Plus, it might ruin your bikini bottoms.

  22. No. You have to wear tampons. You flow does stop in the water but as SOON as you get out, it starts pooring out. Trust me, same thing happened to me and it turned out really bad. Besides, its kinda unhygenic so bleed in the water with everyone there. It's gross.
