  1. Let the cat do her thing.  It is a natural process.  Don't touch you cat during the birth.  Put a pillow in a box in a nice quiet corner on it's side.  The only time you may need to do anything if the birth is not going well, then you would call your vet right away.   After the birth mama kitty does everything, she cleans then she bites off the cord that is still attached it is like a sac thing.  Let nature take it's course.  I have had 6 litters and I have had to do nothing.  Don't be surprised if mama kitty moves her kittens to different places.  She moves them to what she thinks is a safe place.  If she feels danger she will move them again and again.  Do not move the kittens back.  Let mama kitty do EVERYTHING.

  2. get a box, about twice her size, put rags or newspapers in it, place in a dark quite place, in a closet or under a bed. put cat in it.

if you see the cat looking somewhere else, move box there.

then, when she has the kittens on your bed at 2 am, move into box and put in closet.

we only tell you to get the box to give you something to do, like boiling water in the movies. she will have them in the worst place, no matter what you do.

you should not handle the kittens until they can walk, it stresses mom. she does not like any one touching her babies.

sometimes one will wander away and you will have to put him back  the others. or mom will lay on one and you wil have to rescue it.

change bedding about every day. wash it or throw it out.

mom will spend about 23 hours a day with them for about 2 weeks, they cant regulate body temp and they need to nurse every 2 hours, so move food water and liter box nearby.

after 2 weeks, mom will spend more time away, it is the start of weaning.

when they walk, put saucers of food out for them, mom will teach them to eat. very little food at first. they will walk through it at first.

put them in the litter box as soon as they start walking. after meals and when ever mom uses the box. mom will teach them.

sternly say no , place in litter box and praise when ever they have an accident.

then, get mom and them fixed.

oh, and moving them, by biting them on the back of the neck and carrying them to a new spot is normal. most cats move at least once.

all will move a lot if they are bothered.

  3. What about getting her spayed now??  Term the pregnancy..  It's not that bad, and the cat doesn't suffer any trauma..  Lets face it, there are too many unwanted cats and kittens out there, and secondly it costs a boatload more to raise momma and kittens just nutrition wise than it does for a spay at a low cost clinic...  Kittens are cute and fun, but they grow up to be adults soon enough, then people find they aren't so cute anymore, and that's where they end up in trouble. :-(  Kittens are a c**p load of work too, especially if mom rejects the litter, than it's your problem..  BTDT, no thanks.

  4. I just had a pregnant cat.  The process is so much fun.

First, you should switch her over to kitten food.  It is higher in fat and will help provide the best nutrition for the babies as they develop.  Just follow the directions on the bag for pregnant and nursing cats.

There is a useful timeline (www.myhealthycat.com/cat-pregnancy.html... that will help you estimate a due date, which is great, because you can count down as the days get closer.

She will behave normally almost until the end of the pregnancy, though I have heard that some cats become sweeter than usual and others meaner.  Our cat was just as sweet as ever.

Towards the end, though, she will start looking for a place to nest to have her babies.  I made my cat a birthing box, simply because I did not want the mess on my carpet.  I just took a cardboard box that was big enough for her to lay down and stretch out in and cut a groove in the side so she could get in and out more easily.

When she started going into labor, I put her in the bathroom with her box, lined with old, but soft towels, and waited.  You could probably do this as soon as you notice her getting restless.  You'll definitely be able to tell.

Putting her in the bathroom or another small room with just her birthing box as an option is the only way to ensure that she will have the kittens in there.  A lot of times, cats choose just the place you don't want them to to have kittens; behind the couch, for instance.

When it comes to the birth, momma should be able to do everything herself... she'll clean them and help them nurse, as well as chew away the umbilical cord.  Cats are very smart.

If she seems not to know what to do, just help her however you can.  Kitten formula is at superwalmart, so if there is an emergency and she is not feeding them how she should, you can always make a quick trip.

Kittens are so much fun, and I loved the whole process.

    Best of luck to you!!!

  5. just leave her alone, only bring food 2 her.

  6. Make sure that your cat has a place to give birth. When she gives birth, don't bother most times.Don't pick up her kittens most of the time.Let her mother clean her kittens and give them milk.Make sure that your cat is comfortable.
